Professional oral hygiene

Professional oral hygiene
Professional oral hygiene is a set of procedures aimed at improving the health of organs and tissues of the oral cavity, preventing the onset and progression of dental diseases. Professional oral hygiene is the removal of soft plaque and dental calculus. It is performed by a dentist and is an essential and indispensable step. Professional dental cleaning precedes therapeutic, orthopaedic, surgical and orthodontic measures. Normalisation of oral care contributes to gum health, stops bleeding and bad breath.

How often should I have my teeth professionally cleaned?

Professional oral hygiene is usually recommended every 6 months. However, it depends on how quickly plaque builds up. If necessary, it can be done more often (as it is completely harmless to the teeth). For some patients who take very good care of their teeth at home, 1 treatment per year is sufficient.

Is the procedure painful?

Sometimes the removal of stones by ultrasound causes unpleasant sensations, especially if there are already problems with the periodontium, bare tooth roots or abrasion of enamel. In this case, local anaesthesia can be applied if the patient wishes. Air-flow plaque removal is usually painless. Particles of powder can bounce off the surface of the teeth and get on the oral mucosa, causing slight discomfort. For twenty-four hours after the procedure, the gums may remain slightly bleeding. However, if you follow all the recommendations of the dentist, very soon after the cleaning all the unpleasant symptoms will pass and you will be left with clean teeth and healthy gums! You should always remember that the harm from dental deposits is always many times greater than the discomfort of brushing. Only professional teeth cleaning is not enough!

Personal oral hygiene

Personal oral hygiene is the daily care of the oral cavity using personal hygiene products. It is important to instil skills from a young age – to teach children how to care for their oral cavity properly. The personal example of parents has a great influence. An odontologist or oral hygienist can give advice and encouragement.

The main method of personal oral hygiene

The basic method of personal oral hygiene is brushing twice a day, removing plaque and food debris to prevent their harmful effects on the oral cavity. Our clinic will advise you on which oral hygiene products you should purchase: toothbrushes, interdental brushes, rinsing liquids, various toothpastes, oral irrigators.

Proper oral hygiene is essential for a healthy and beautiful smile!
