Trends in pediatric dentistry

Today, prevention is mandatory in paediatric dentistry, emphasis on sanitation work to keep children healthy, and there is no need to treat children under two years of age under anaesthesia.

The main task of paediatric dentistry is a healthy, natural smile of a child. Smile is now a very important argument for young children, because they are very socialised, because they go not only to the garden, but also to photo shoots, participate in various competitions. Parents understand the importance of a natural smile, and what complex can be formed in a child in its absence, so no one wants to “silver” teeth now.

But no matter how hard we try to do restorations or dental treatment, healthy teeth are the trend, and for this you need to teach your child oral hygiene from an early age. It is recommended to start brushing when the first teeth appear. Also, you should not give your child sugary drinks at night.

As a rule, the first tooth appears after 6 months of age and all 20 milk teeth will erupt before the age of 3 years. Individual teething dates are a variant of the norm and should not embarrass parents. Thus, it is not uncommon to see 3-4-month-old babies who are already teething. And it happens that the first tooth appears only closer to a year. When teeth are cut late, it is not bad: they will start to fall out in the prescribed 6-7 years, not earlier, and will be replaced by permanent teeth when the child’s jaw will be ready for it. The permanent teeth finish erupting by the age of 13. In total there are 28 to 32 of them.

There are 3 main factors that influence the timing of teeth emergence:

  • inherited genetic traits;
  • individual characteristics of the child’s body development;
  • the ability to absorb calcium and other trace elements.

Only a doctor can tell you whether your baby is developing correctly and whether his or her teeth are growing normally, so at the first sign of worry, seek advice from an experienced specialist.

For a paediatric dentist it is very important to enjoy your work and have a sense of humour, because a smile at a child’s appointment is a must. You need to understand the child, improve yourself, attend all kinds of congresses and seminars, communicate with colleagues and generally try to be the best in your field.

Dear parents, please bring your children for regular preventive check-ups every 3-4 months to avoid tooth decay or prevent its complications. Regular visits enable the doctor to detect the disease at an early stage and avoid complicated, expensive dental treatment. Regular check-ups are less costly than the serious procedures required to correct the consequences of improper oral care. This is especially important during childhood, as infections on baby teeth resulting from decay can spread to the rudiments of permanent teeth. In addition, untimely replacement of baby teeth can also interfere with a child’s bite.
